Default Cheers from Dallas

Hello Rover Community!

I've been digging into the forums pretty heavily the past week and finally took the time to register.

As of 1pm yesterday, I'm the proud owner of a 2003 Discovery. This has been a dream car of mine since the age of 14, so its fair to say I'm one happy camper at the moment.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the great info. I look forward to actively participating in lots of Rover conversations in the future.

If anyone is in the Dallas area feel free to give me a shout!

And a shout back to you, Dusty!

Any good Rover resources in our area I should be aware of?

I snag parts from A few yards with discos. Anything new comes to me by mail. I hear north Texas British is a decent source, but I have no 1st hand experience with them.
You in Dallas or suburbia?

What yards are around these parts? I grew up south of here, so I'm not familiar with any of the yards around here. I'd love to do some part harvesting though.

I've never even heard of Texas British, so I'll check them out.

I live over near White Rock Lake. What about you?

Oak cliff, here. Kessler park
There is a few off 180/davis in Grand Prairie
I like a1riley, off of 175&636. It's a call them and they do the pulling, place. They have about 8 d2s last I checked. Probably some in one of the fair park area that would be closer to you.....not sure.
That north Texas British place is up off of royal and 35. I talked to a couple of guys that got some work done up there.

I'm going to have to check out A1 Riley then. Who knows what goodies I might find. I'm in the mood to find some deals as I just dropped a chunk on a new key from the LR dealer yesterday... Ouch! Plus, they were happy to share with me that my Disco has a slight valve cover leak. Guess I have to investigate that now, haha.

Over near White Rock we've got a local shop that does Foreign rides and I've seen it packed with Rovers over the years. Got a nice crew, so I think I might give them a try as they're about 3 minutes from my house.

I'm going to add you to my "friends" list so I'll be able to find ya easily as so far you're the only guy I know locally with a Disco!

good deal. a large majority of the time, the valve cover leak can be remedied by simply tightening the little bolts back down. they have a reputation for vibrating loose.
8mm 12pt socket fits them. spec says something like 10ftlbs of torque. you can usually get away with just tightening the bottom 2 bolts on each cover. they are the easily accessible ones and the oil doesn't usually leak from the top/inside portion of them.

You're the man, dusty!

I'll tighten these guys up this weekend to see if that helps. Thank you!

Random question... I'm going to need to replace the brake pads on the front in the near future, so would you happen to have a recommended brand?
