He's baaaack! Recycled Discovery II Owner
Thanks for still being here for us recidivists. Yes, I have decided to once again take the plunge. The scars rendered upon me by the one-time egg-sucking-dog 1995 Disco have adequately healed, or maybe my memory ain't what it used to be, or . . . what was I saying?
Oh, yes. I have moved to my mountain place, and the 9,000 pound Excursion is chewing the dirt road to mush. So I think to myself, Self, what if you found a decent 10-year-old small efficient compact economical 4x4 to save the planet? Well, that didn't work, so I fell back on what I knew, and with the help of the threads about "best Disco ever," on last Saturday I ended up with New Improved Discovery. It's a mint green (I think - color-blind) 2000 SD, two previous owners, 155k miles, 16" wheels, decent tires, cosmetically perfect, no rust, documented local Atlanta grocery-getter, maintenance and repair records back to day 1 mostly performed by Land Rover Buckhead and Road Brittannia in Atlanta. Head gaskets done, new transfer case, etc. Yes, it thinks it's a Harley - it marks its territory with 5w30; no, the PDL actuators don't work; yes, the sunroof motors are grinding and the rear speakers are blown out; etc. But for $2,350 I think it was a better deal than the others for sale at the moment.
And the gods of karma agree: next day I found a set of OEM 18" wheels with good tires for $125 at a clean-out-the-house-of-the-lying-scum-ex-husband's-stuff sale. Trailered it home and have been enjoying some hills and valleys today. Now I remember what I liked about the '95.
Yes, I'm glad to be back. The hunt for bits begins. . .
