My Second Rover

Hello all - Been a member for a bit, but this is my first post. I just purchased my second LR3 so I thought it was time. I've got one thought, and one question I'd like some help with.
First, the thought: This used car market is bizarre! I live in MO and had to buy one in NJ. 2009, 1owner, 130k miles for $9995. Not a bad deal, I think, but it was hard to find, as there was nearly nothing available w/in 500 miles of MO. Decent ones were gone instantly, and the rest were overpriced. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it was eye opening for me.
Second, the question: What do I do with the dead LR3? I bought the 09 because my 08 died at 200000 miles, but it was a great car so the 09 is basically the same car minus 70k miles. Other than the dead motor, it is a fully functioning car. My mechanic says scrap it. This seems like a waste. LR3s are becoming more scarce and there's got to be people out there who want a parts car, right? But I've never sold a parts car! How does it work? Any thoughts are appreciated.
