Hello Everyone,
I just recently joined to have a good source for detailed information on maintaining my 1997 Discovery SE. I purchased it about 3 years ago with approx 100,000 miles on it. I pretty much bought it on impulse after a short test drive and needing to replace a dying vehicle.
I joined the FPLRG (Fort Pitt Land Rover Group), a loose knit social Rover owners club that meets monthly and has a few trail rides a year. A fine group of fellows and an assortment of Rover vehicles that span most models.
Over the time that I have owned it, I have replaced the shocks and springs, rear brake rotors, pads and calipers, front rotors and pads, exhaust manifold gaskets and muffler. I do as much work on it as I possibly can, and have found pleasure in resolving the various issues I have encountered, most caused by neglect I guess by previous owners.
I no longer work a normal job, having taken what I consider to be an early retirement from my latest employment. I spent the better part of the 1970-2000 era working various positions within the defense industry on a variety of aerospace projects.
I now spend my time enjoying my golf club collection, my grandchildren,
and my getting out enjoying nature. I find the Discovery to be a great vehicle for hauling us around and having fun getting there.
