New Vitesse owner
hello everyone! myself and a friend of mine have jumped into the LR world with a unlikely craigslist find with a '97 range rover vitesse. previous owner posted it up with a bad transmission, but otherwise good body and interior, with 120k on the clock. my friend replied to the ad immediately and within a half hour we were on our way to northern iowa to pick it up for $1000 at 10pm on a monday night.
the ad turned out and the rover was in pretty good shape, a bit tired looking but otherwise ok. after we dug into it we found out the transmission is in fact good, but one of the bolts came out of the torque converter and spun around in the bell housing and completely destroyed the toner ring, snapped off the speed sensor and brought the rover to an abrupt halt on the highway. $300 in parts and hard work in our shop and she's running and driving fine!!
i also gave the front end a face lift, it had a light frontal collision earlier in its life, and the bumper was replaced and never painted, nor was the grill, so i've restored it back to its former glory, just need the fog lights next.
first day:
front end resto:
damaged parts:
back on the road (and off):
great to have this rover around in our fleet of vehicles! its going to get a lot of use. i'm planning on putting in a new headliner this week and a few other odds and ends but other than that it doesn't need anything! already on the look out for a 2nd P38 because with the amount of use this one is going to get, we're going to need two so we don't have to share!
