In my mind what good are they if you are limited on where you can go due to coverage.
No Wifi or Cell coverage needed. The idea is you have to plan your trip and have the map of the area downloaded via Internet connection prior to your trip to the far country that you want to navigate. The app of choice then uses the built-in GPS of your phone or some better tablets, or add on external GPS device via USB or Bluetooth to your laptop to put your vehicle icon/location indicator on the map on your device, just like you would put your finger on the map if trying to locate yourself on a paper map. The advantage is, that as the GPS changes your location, using the updated GPS location data and moves your icon/map location indicator along the map on your device. I am by no means an experienced user at this point, still learning and investigating software, but no cell coverage needed for the navigation along the map. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 which is the smaller format tablet with built-in GPS to try to use a RAM mount and try it out for this purpose. I may end up with a full size tablet depending on how the map display works for my old eye *****.
