right! Today i went out a few times to get the hang of it and its by far better than the other one i had- got 4x the coins i normally find and only dug up two piece of trash instead of my normal 5-6.

when i was younger my dad and i went out with a radioshack cheap-0 metal detector that was a "toy" basically and he found a 500 dollar gold bracelet and later found a 1k gold chain. so yeah treasure is out there! finding it is the hard thing.

Looking for old houses to ask for permission to hunt on now. i am sure i cleaned up the local park now, all thats left is the soccer field.

 

Problem in France ............. the government say you're not allowed to use them just in case you find something they want and you don't declare it but being a law abiding conscientious type I use my cheapo 10 year old $150 detector secretly (James Bond of the disguised brigade, trenchcoat and trilby) and all I ever find is bits of WW2 shrapnel, rusty old gate and farmyard fittings and other metal junk. I'm still hoping for that pot of gold Roman coins to appear in my back yard and it'll be out of France in a flash and sold in the US no doubt ............. no worries.

Like it. 40 years ago I used to collect flint and percussion cap weapons and trade them as a hobby. Now I don't have a single one left as they were worth CASH, blunderbuss, French matched duelling pistols in a case etc.

 

I collect and use vintage straight razors and safety razors. I collect briar smoking pipes, but I haven't smoked one since before my son was born(he'll be 2 on Christmas eve). I also enjoy gardening and cycling, but haven't done much of either of those since my son was born, either. I keep salt water aquariums, I play guitar, mandolin, and both tenor and 5 string banjo, and I have a bad habit of buying neglected instruments, fixing them up, and then not selling them.

 

I used to play trumpet years ago, modern jazz of course, but I always envied those who played saxophone which I've never attempted ever since my schooldays when the music teacher said I had no hand/eye coordination so you'll never play the piano after that I've gave up and stuck to a trumpet where the errors were far less. Got quite good on the horn with MJ but always wanted to play the sax. hey ho, too late now to start.

speaking of hobbies.....(not so much a hobby anymore as I've been selling pieces for many years) most of my junk is contemporary exotic wood stuff, but i've been doing slab tables/bars lately. so any of you Yankees have a good source for wood? specifically kiln or air dried live edge slabs. table top stuff. I've been using Berkshire in Sheffield Mass and a couple of other sources, but (as trees go) hit or miss on always finding stuff that I like.
