Looks like it still uses that crazy BMW based integrated head unit/amp setup so it probably sounds alot like the stock unit. But as I understand it there aren't many options for upgrading that system other than tearing it out and starting from scratch. Front and rear from only right and left channels? Was the use of two more wires that big an issue?

It can support the original amplifier.
This unit is totally plug and play. Just remove the original panel and install the new unit. No need to cut wires, all the harness adapters will be included with accessories. The original steering wheel control can still work.

Yes, this unit can also fit to BMW E39. They have the same dashboard and configuration.
Actually, our unit can support the factory amplifier, the speakers will output audio the same as the stock radio system.
