Default Temperature Gauge reads low

I have a 2010 L322, 5.0 engine, 94,000 runs great. The temp gauge has been acting up lately. Once the car is warm the gauge barely reads above cold, only after turning the heat on does the gauge go up to normal, in the middle. It does not over heat.. Any suggestions? Also does this engine have two temp sensors or one?

Thanks

Default Any updates?

I still haven’t fixed mine but if ac is on the gauge stays low. If heater on the gauge rises normallly. It might be something to do with the flow of water through the fuel burner heater. Mine also has dual coolant valves and this might be the area. The other thought was faulty coolant sensor that needs higher voltage to kick in, like a faulty resistor on the sensor. Finally it could be a faulty ground. There’s a few main ones but seems the one under the drivers side wheel arch is often corroded. Look for corrosion in others too like earth strap under car.

I still haven’t found mine but have to go through above still properly. Good luck

Thanks! I should have stated I have a 4.4 Gas engine. I originally had a temp sensor error. I replaced that and everything seemed ok but after a short time all the errors came back. Replacing the alternator ended up fixing a bunch of strange issues but this one is still perplexing. Cold start - all good. Then after warm, cranking to no end, then eventually a hard start, very rich, smoke out the tail pipes and the temp gauge never rises despite that I did have it running from cold and perfectly driving down the road just previous.

Default Pcv?

Try replacing the Pcv valves. They have similar symptoms to a blown head gasket but are only $30 to replace. Otherwise white smoke is head

Al thanks for this. I did replace the PCV valve and was the first thing I did. Is there more than the one on the right side, front valve cover?

Mine has two Pcv valves next to each other. It’s easy to see
