Apple Carplay , what model year
Hi All
thinking about getting an approved used L405, but really want Carplay in it as std.
Anyone know the earliest model year which will include this, and what options I need to be looking for.
JLR say Model year 19 with 10"screen and InControl Pro services , but I thought earlier models could have it ?
Any thoughts.
cheers

In 2016 they upgraded the system. As I just came over from the Jaguar side I assume LR is the same. I found on Jag's site that you can get a complementary upgrade to include it on 2016-2018. So I guess it's standard on the 2019 because that is when the put the larger screens in. I believe all of the trim levels have the same Incontrol ability.

I was going to say 2017, but 2016 may be the year. We just bought a 2014 a couple of months ago and I have been looking into that option. Only thing I've found so far, is a guy that has a full replacement screen that contains Android Auto, with a plug in Apple Carplay device that makes it compatible.
EDIT * It retains all factory functions and options. Even has the LR startup screen. It is a larger screen, and replaces all of the "side buttons" on the stock model with a bigger screen. Downside - cost is about $1000, or so.

I am sure it's the same as the Fords when they switched systems. You would need not only the screen but the USB interface as the I would guess CarPlay needs a higher speed bus. On the fords you also have to replace the GPS antenna as that changed too . I wound look and compare the part numbers of all associated items between the years. And even after you have changed the parts you need might need to change the software of the CAN bus so it can talk to the new versions of the hardware which I doubt SDD software can do because it reads the VIN first. Ford owners have created a software that works around the VIN issues allowing you to program each module to your specification .
