Keylees entry remote will not work after replacing the outer case
key remote will not work after replacing the outer case. the buttons on the original case cracked and fell off. I replaced the outer case with a new case and now it does not work at all. what is involved in getting a new remote or the electrical board inside. do I have to go through the dealer? can I get a remote and have the car accept the new remote? any help with other options would be greatly appreciated! It's a 1998 range rover 4.6 HSE (NAS)
See my post below... From everything I have been able to find out you can not get a new remote fob from a dealer, they are no longer available. Information is mixed but mostly negative on programming a fob from another car to work on yours. One place selling fobs for $330.00 says you can but they sell fobs for many different makes of cars and have no reviews specific to the RR P38.
Your best bet would be to make your old fob work again. As long as you know it came from your truck and the battery is good you can resync it to your vehicle by using the standard procedure:
1. Exit Vehicle.
2. Lock Doors Using Key (Key Must Be Removed Within 5 Seconds)
3. Push New Remote Button 3 Times (Must Be Done Within 5 Seconds Of Removing Key/During Rapid LED Blink Period).
4. Lights Should Flash To Indicate Acceptance Of New Remote.
I believe this sequence will only work with an original fob for the vehicle with the original becm and the original lock cylinder in the ignition.
Please update if you find any other info because I need a whole new fob as well.

thanks Dave. the problem is that the remote does not light up when the buttons are pushed. it has new batteries. I wondering if the circuit board is fubar'd. everything is so small its hard to test it for voltage or continuity. any thoughts? I'm going to call and talk with the dealer on Monday.

When I googled the subject the usual problems are the microswitches under the buttons on the circuit board or the clip holding the battery in place not seated correctly.
There are companies in the UK that can restore a broken fob.
The internet is your friend.
Best of luck!

Its funny you should mention the micro switches, that is something I am working on testing with a DVOM.Then I'm going to test for voltage from the battery getting to the board, as soon as I figure out how to hold them together safely. I'm also trying to get the EKA code out of the EBCM to perform that procedure to get the thing running. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.

Hi Dave.
Sorry it me took so long to reply. I did find a way to test some of the circuits on the remote fob board. I held the board to the lower half of the case with rubber bands. I found that it is getting 6 volts from the battery and I do have continuity through both micro switches. With some small sewing pins taped to my leads, I was able to determine that some of the components on the board have either power or ground circuits that are complete. Still no led light flash.
I talked with the parts manager at the local Rover dealer. When I gave him my VIN he was able to find the parts needed to make of a new remote for my truck. I took him my proof of ownership and a check for $303.92
and he sent the order across the pond. He called me a couple hours later and said he had an estimated arrival date of early August. He also told me that several customers with newer Land Rovers had ordered new fobs and they were on back order status with no estimated delivery dates. He didn't say what years they were, but perhaps this is the limbo you may be in with yours. This Covid crap has put a kink in everything now a days. Short staff and fewer working hours have created shortages of everything it seems except news stories about it.
I have been in contact with a fellow named Storey Wilson at RSW Solutions, he has written a program that interfaces with the Land Rover OBDII diagnostic system and the various ECMs in the truck. I have his program and it has returned my $190.00 purchase price many times over. He will try to help anyone who contacts him. He has helped me several times and is helping me now to navigate this snafu. I sure do appreciate your help and insight also. I'm going try to get back to this problem real soon, but my wife's A/C quite working in her Trailblazer, and we all know that if she ain't happy-nobody's happy! I'll keep this updated as I proceed. Thanks again.
