Default Lack of power and back fires?

Junk iCarSoft LR scanner comes up with can’t talk to most anything but did give me this ”fmfr correction at its maximum negative value (diving cycle C)”. No P code but it seems to either be a P1177 or P1179. Most seem to point towards the MAF or needing to reset the adaptive. Of course this reader can’t do that 🙄. I’ll try the launch tomorrow back at the shop. It will run down the road doing 65 no issue but big hills are its enemy

Symptoms

1. doesn’t like to rev over 3k
2. Doesn’t like over half throttle seems to backfire
3. fmfr correction at its maximum negative value (diving cycle C)
4. Seems to be a lot of venting when you open the gas cap

Things done
1. Spark plugs old looked fine on burn but were obviously worn
2. Plug wires
3. Fixed vacuum leak by cruise control
4. New Air filter
5. Swapped MAFs no change

That is a really nice looking P38.

I would also post this in the Disco 1 section as the engine is the same, and there are a lot more people with experience there.

Well as an update I was able to reset the adaptives and now it’s much more angry🤣

paint is shot on it and it looks great from about 50 feet and the side or rear only😂😂

So after the reset it didn’t want to start. It did finally restart after sitting for an hour but did not want to stay running so of course I kept it alive and drove it around after it but it was closer to where it was as far as drivability. So I don’t think that was our fix.

it did set a multiple misfire code but the 1177 or 1179 hasn’t returned. I cleared the codes after it started running better and so far they haven’t returned but it’s obviously not right

I decided to check fuel pressure and was only getting about 20 psi at the rail. I did the fuel filter and rechecked oddly the pressure was lower at key on and zero when running. I decided my ages old pressure tester from hobo freight might have given up. So this morning on my way out to the shop I picked up a new Maddox kit from Hobo Freight and it consistently pulled up at 15 psi key on or running. So I decided it was time to drop the tank and put a fuel pump in it. My gut when I got the truck was screaming fuel pump but I didn’t want to drop the tank lol

So the tank has been pulled and the pump changed but apparently I’m an idiot and didn’t order the full pump kit that comes with the new nuts and compression rings for the fuel line hook up. Pump appeared to be original, I’ll probably get it back together and find out its the pressure regulator lol

I should think the odds of a jumped tooth is really small

My thoughts are the same but it will be Friday or Saturday before we know if the fuel pump makes a difference. I can’t imagine that 15 PSI though isn’t an issue lol. Honestly I’m impressed it runs with pressure that low
