Just for giggles and grins. IF the engine were cherry, how would you feel about the price tag? My thought is that if it’s rust free and new car clean, that 14k would be inline with my expectations. It’s the closest you’d get to a “new” D2. Thoughts?

Still a D2. Still gonna need all the same D2 maintenance/repairs. 14500 is nice LR3 money. Or L322 money. Or a decent-good FJ60 hell I've seen Defenders and series go for that price range. We all know what happens to these trucks at 80k or less. Except w this one you get to skip the new car part and get right to the HG and driveshaft failures. Keep in mind the truck won't be worth squat in a few years when age catches up w it.

And $14,500 is nearly LR4 money...

I have a theory that there are multiple types of Disco drivers and that the Disco 1,2, RRC are all firmly headed to the Classic SUV market (eventually). If that’s true, then certain model years (2004) and original, clean vehicles with low miles would start to command higher prices than modified and well maintained ones.

Well, highest possible book value on it now is under $7k.
So how he came up with over double, and down from $18k is beyond me.
Add in an engine in need of repair or rebuild, that's a $2k truck.
The op is trippin.

If you’re looking at KBB values, yup D2’s aren’t worth much. For folks who would upgrade to an LR3 or LR4, also probably not worth much. Recently I’ve been running into Unicorn chasing car buyers with money to spend on the right vehicle. It reminds me a little of the VW Westfalia market before it blew up to command silly money. I helped a guy buy an 04 last year and his budget was 12-16k for the purchase. He actually got outbid on a few cars. I really do think that the Classic SUV market will take off and that the D2 prices will go up. This car however, not so my much. The Poster would be better off rebuilding the motor, making the car perfect, then advertising it at a collector price point for someone that wants a perfect original car. (Or fire sale it as is for 3k )
