D2 Center Console Plate w/ Switch Bezel - ON SALE
#71
That is basically what I did, but used a longer piece of metal and used epoxy to attach the longer end to the console to give it support for the original factory mount some time ago before this product was available. This provided good tabs and is what I did on the bottom as well, but the dogs on the switches now did not break the tabs, but began to break the center console plastic under the mat where the tab support was mounted to the center console flat area near the switches where I epoxied the long end of the tab mounts. Switch plate pressure moved the breakage to the weakest point. Solid plate in the center console now, that this product provides worked great with my previous tab repair and gave me the support down through the console flat area between the gear shifter and the seat switches. Great job, love the product and the look!

UPDATE:
Money has been pretty tight due to an unfortunate incident with my SSN and my 2014 tax return. Whatever.
So many people have asked about the kit in case the upper tabs are broken too. Well, I have a temporary solution. I have not been able to order the kits for the reason mentioned above but in previous posts, you can see that others have used an alternative solution.
It's very easy and we decided that we would do one ourselves. In fact, it's so easy, we may not order the kits and just make a kit from scratch, like this.
Using a corner brace and a hammer, I made a tab that will work perfectly from a 3/4" 90° corner brace
Simply hammer it to ~45° and attach the speed nut. This now acts as the tab and clamps the switch plate and center console plate to the center console.See pics for reference of this "tab" solution. It's basically how the others posting above fixed theirs I imagine, and its a simpler version of what we were going to order.
I'm going to look into a bulk purchase of "tabs" and tape. If I can find something, I will update ALL kits at no additional price increase AND will send the hardware to ANY current customer that wants one.
For reference, I paid $2.39 (after tax) for 4 corner braces in a package at the hardware store. Very cheap if I can get a bulk supply.

Are these still available?

Yes, but we haven't unpacked everything since our move. I'll have the website back online shortly and eBay ad restarted soon.

I'm checking back on this thread several months (a year? More? I don't remember) after putting one of these on my console. I typically don't buy "new" things for my Disco. It is just so old. But this one was worth the money and still looks brand new. Good product.

Sorry if I'm not understanding... Is this just an aesthetic upgrade, if you don't like the look of the rubber mat? Or am I missing some utility? I'm wondering why I'd want to swap this in place of my mat and switchplate.

If yours are in good shape, there really isn't a necessity to upgrade except that it gives a different look and is very, very easy to clean. The rubber mats look neat but they trap everything.
