talk about raped
Just registered my trailer here in Colorado. $132 for one year. I have to renew my Rover plates by the end of the month and that's another $78. The one that is really going to hurt is renewing my Dodge. It will be a little less this year than last year but I'm still expecting it to be over $400. You still feeling raped?
$400 for ONE car? Why so high? I forget how new it is...
My trailer has a perminant plate so as long as I have the trailer I never have to renew that plate, and the trailer is home made so I can cheat if I ever get a new trailer, just call the new one homemade and I'm good to go with the same plate.
The Rover was $130, Volvo $101 and the other $65 was for my CDL, dropped HAZMAT but kept the tanker and airbrake endoresments.
With the back ground check and fee's HAZMAT was another $130, so I dropped it.

Wow, you guys need to renew your plates? We just need to renew a plate city sticker which is, I think $80. And a front windshield city sticker for $175. The good thing is that, the Disco is classified as a Light wagon and not a SUV so we avoided the hefty $200 charge.
what the hell is renewing your plates? i'm guessing that is like registration in NY. I had to pay like $470 to register my Disco when I bought it because they made me pay sales tax cuz I bought it in Connecticut. Hopefully it will be like $80 when I go to re-register next year.
Colorado is stupid and doesn't do permanent plates for trailers. I really wish they did. My Dodge is a 2007 and Colorado taxes based on the value of the vehicle so it will be expensive to register for the next few years.
I'm still at this stage where you have to keep updating your license, first you get your permit, go back one year later to get your restricted license, go back 6 months later to get your non-restricted under 18 license, then about 1.5 years later you can go back and get your non restricted 18 and over version. Now I have to go back to get the new version NC just put into effect. If you are under 21 your license is now vertical instead of horizontal..... The idea behind it is great, but I HATE the look of it, it reminds me of my middle school ID card. So in three years I will have gone to the DMV 5 times, and each time I had pay the fee to get a new license. Annoying yes. Worth it... YES.
At least you don't have to retake a written test every time you have to change your license. Because I have a hazmat endorsement I have to retake the hazmat written test every time I do anything with my license. I could walk in there just to update my address and I'll have to retake my hazmat test. And to really make things bad the required TSA background check is good for 5 years but the state of Colorado will only accept the TSA letter if it is less than a year old. Makes no sense to me. If the background check is good for 5 years the letter allowing you to get the endorsement should be good for 5 years. I am procrastinating getting my motorcycle endorsement because I don't want to spend the money for another background check until it's time to renew my CDL.
Yes we have to renew out plates every year, that includes a new registration card and a new sticker that goes on the plate and that shows the expiration month and year, so my sticker says AUG 2010 on it, so if a cop is behind you and he see's that yoru plate is expired he can pull you over and give you a ticket.
MI did away with the perm plate for trailers a few years ago but if you already had one then you were grandfathered in.
They did it to bring in quick revenue then went back to the old way to keep it coming.
Here in MI the price of the plate is based on the value of the car until it is 10 yrs old then it goes on the weight of the car, so my plate for the truck will never get cheaper becasue it is more then 10 yrs old.
I hear your pain about the CDL AK, here in MI you must renew your CDL every 2 yrs, that includes the FBI background check for HAZMAT, and here it is law that if you move you must change the address on your drivers licence within 90 days or you will be fined if they find out.
And plate renewals are due no later than your actual birthday, it used to be your birthday month but they changed it to your birthday or you will get a fine of $10 per car per month it is overdue.
So if you have a Ferrari that you only drive in the summer and your birthday is in March you still have to pay for a 12 month plate.
