Default Aftermarket ECU

Hey team,

I've just purchased a 96 Series 1 (3.9 V8i) and I would like to install an aftermarket ECU to tinker with.

I'm only at the beginning of my search so haven't turned over many rocks yet but have discovered flashing the factory ECU is not an option.

What's out there that is essentially plug and play for these, if anything? I would prefer direct from the manufacturer or to just buy the required loom and source the ECU myself where possible.

I understand this will not grant me any large performance gains, even when coupled with some other modifications, it is really just something I would like to do out of interest

You can tune the 14cux. You cant flash it, the eprom needs to be programmed externally, but there are eprom emulators out there that let you change settings in real time

Download tunerpro RT. The 14cux definition is on their site too.

Ahh interesting.Learning learning

Is this something you have personally done?

If so, cost aside, what are you opinions on doing this or just chucking something like a MS at it?

Yes. Ive done it. I actually wrote the original tunerpro 14cux definition.

not a megasquirt fan. Its kind of a piece of **** until you step up to the ms3pro, and around that price there are other options.

youre not getting anything from tuning a stock engine like a 3.9. All of an engines power is from a pressure increase. The easiest way to do that is advance the timing, and since your 3.9 has a mechanical distribtuor you dont need a computer to tune that. If you change intakes or cams or displacements you need to tune the fuel tables in the 14cux, but not on a stock engine.

Nice one. Cheers for your efforts!
Hmm, so going by one of your posts from 2012 (thanks again haha) on another forum I'd just need one of these 'Ostrich 2.0 : The New Breed' [OSTRICH_2] - $175.00 : Moates.Net

Yeah I haven't really bought the best thing when it comes to learning how to tune. I was actually hunting for an tidy B18C powered car but realized I would never actually use it day to day or on the weekend so waste of time.

As mentioned I'm not really expecting to make any more power without some modifications, it's purely out of interest, however, excitement is dwindling....
That said, already know a few more things than I did yesterday.

Tempting - https://www.autosportlabs.com/product/megajolte/

Have done a few KMs in her now, mainly road, and what a piece of ****. I love it 🤪

Both swivel hubs have started leaking, the radiator has a slow drip when parked and the key is stuck in the ignition so this is on the back burner for a few weeks.
