On my 04 I had to remove it from inside the valve cover. Earlier 99-02’s were supposed to be accessible from the top, but it changed in 03-04 from what I understand.
Thats why once the stupid OEM baffle is gone it’ll be a snap to service with the FV308 vs that OEM thing that requires so much work to access.

03-04, actually all years, just grab the tube with a pair of pliers and turn. 99-02 is easier if you put a socket in the tube first, 03-04 has a restrictor in the top of the that makes it easier. Once you have the 03-04 tube out just cut the top off to remove the restrictor.

Since I had easy access to just removing the valve cover on my 4.6L I'm working on I just took a small drill bit that fit the hole and gently tapped it with a hammer. I "attempted" to just grab it from below (what was left of it that wasn't just sitting on the shield inside the valve cover) with a pair of needle nose but it was just crumbling.
I had a spare valve cover laying around (forgot I had it) and that piece of metal that goes into the valve cover and connects to the rubber hose just falls out. Not sure what happened, but I think that's why I was given that valve cover for free in the first place.

Got my ebay FV308's in today. I went ahead and installed it really quickly into my 04 D2 (didn't have time to take the baffle out yet), and it worked fine. The FV308 seems to be the perfect solution for adding an inline PCV to a Bosch 4.0/4.6 engine. I'll remove the baffle when I get a chance this weekend to be 100% out with the old and in with the new.

I have an 04 V8 D2. I removed the clogged PVC spiral from the valve cover. Reinstalled the same factory way without the spiral. I drove around with just the hole (see picture). The engine seemed to be a lot happier. Revved up nice and smooth. GUESS WHAT! No more leaks in the valve cover and crank. My engine must've had way too much back pressure.
03-04 the LR flipped the PCV spiral brass holder (see picture again). The brass tube is removable removable with a pair of pliers. Clean out the spiral. Tap the brass piece back in the same direction. With or without the spiral. Whatever way want to try.
To remove the spiral piece that was all clogged up. I used a nail in the hole to tap out the spiral. Broke off each piece of the spiral until it was out. The spiral was completely packed with carbon.
Here's the really goof ball thing I did. I drilled the tiny hole bigger thinking. More flow equals less crankcase back press. After I started the truck and the idle shot up. I was like "you idiot!! You just made a huge vaccum leak in the manifold!!" I currently have the passenger side vent hose turned away from the engine and pointing down away from the engine. I plugged the manifold hole with a cap. Now she idles kind of low with no flow thru the PCV fitting. But still runs. I'll report back after I install the FRAM FV308.

Ok guys. Now watching this little video that explains the PCV system and valves. It sounds like the LR PCV system is an orifice drive system. No check valve.
This is my thinking. If you have just the orifice in the valve cover (with or without spiral) the check valve is not required. If the orifice is missing in the valve covers (like mine now) the check valve is required.
Does this make sense? Opinions and 2 cents requested. Ha ha!!
