Default d1 starter in d2?

Quick question that a forum search didn't immediately answer.. are the starters in D1's and D2's interchangeable? They *look* similar.. and the bolts line up.. but is the gearing different?

I have a '97 Discovery with a just-gone-bad starter.. and a perfectly good '00 Discovery starter sitting on the bench.... and am wondering

Yes...it looks like this should work. BP of Utah lists the same starter for both the D1 and D2...

Why would gearing matter anyway?

Count the teeth on the starter gear of the two starters. If they are different, nope. If so, should work.

I agree with Kent and am pretty sure it is the same starter. Have you compared the wire connections, might make a difference.
