Only back in Houton 24 hours and my windshied gets shattered!!!
God, I hate the agrigate haulers here in Houston who haul rocks for all the construction projects! I'm only home 24 hours and while driving on I-10 (under heavy construction as usual) a truck tire throws up a rock the size of a lemon and hits my windshield just under the passenger wiper, shattering it. Luckily no one was hurt by the flying spray of small glass paricles and the rock did not enter the car!!!
I will call my insurance agent on Monday but I have a question. Should one insist on a OEM LR piece of glass or accept an aftermarket one in a replacement? Do aftermarket ones exist? Any thoughts on issues with replacing one?
Thanks!

In most states, your insurance company is required, by law, to replace windshields at no cost. In fact you can request new windshields from your insurance company every 5 years if memory serves me. But I guess if you do this a lot on different vehicles, the agent might drop your coverage. Clearer, non-scratched windows are safer windows. At least that's what most states believe.
As for OEM or not. I take pride in trying to keep most of the vehicle LR original parts. I'm sure someone will chime in with better reasons either way.

I had my driver's window smashed a few weeks ago. Since I needed to pay the deductible anyways I went to the dealer to get my glass replaced. If I went with the insurance company's glass dealer they said LR glass wouldn't be installed. Well, whatever that glass would be, it wasn't going to match the other windows. Plus I like seeing the logo in the corners
Seems like these are the rare times you can go to the dealership, not the stealership!

Here in Idaho the gravel companies are required by law to replace a windshield if a rock comes off of the truck. Here they are also now required to cover their trailers upon hauling from the gravel pits. If you know the company name certainly of the hauler certainly give them a call, they might replace it for you.

As a truck driver I can tell you that we are not responsible for flying debris from our trucks.
If you got a trucking company to pay for your glass you are among the few.
All glass has to meet the Fed's reg's, so aftermarket would be just fine.
