Default Motor Swap

Looking for advice on possibly swapping out my stock motor. What are my best options for a replacement without replacing the tranny as well? Any one have advice on whether to pick up a lower miles, used Disco engine or is there a better aftermarket crate motor that will bolt up? Thanks for the input.

4.0 or 4.6, turner motors from the UK are a solid choice. Whatever you do DO NOT BUY FROM CANNIBAL V8..

I second that. And if you are used to a 4.0 the 4.6 will be a vast improvement in driveability.

I'd add that you MIGHT want to consider what transmission you already have. I put a 4.6 in front of my original zf4hp22 transmission with no ill effects, but I have a zf4hp24 in reserve.

Cannibal told me on the phone that the hp22 would be fine. The same Cannibal. So I have an hp24 in reserve.

I am now performing LS engine swaps for D2's using the 4.8L engines. The price of a complete turn key conversion is very competitive with replacing your existing 4.0 / 4.6 with a re-man from any of the above mentioned suppliers.

this engine has done just over 9000 miles since installing, and has been a great upgrade from the Rover V8

Ok. Couple of questions. Where do I find the Tranny model number? Also, Tuner has a nw 2.2 Ford Puma Diesel complete for sale pulled from a Defender. anyone have experience with this motor? Going to emal Turner to see if it will bolt on the existing tranny.

That likely won't fit in the truck, it's a very tall engine. I'd suggest Trailhead's option

That would be an amazing swap. But I think you would have to do a huge lift to make it fit vertically. The location of our diffs is very inconvenient for tall engines. I've seen 6bt (cummins) engines shoe horned into a defender, but the length and height wouldn't work in a Disco.

What will work is a Chevy LS engine, if you're smart enough to make its sensors talk to your computers and talented enough to fab some parts, or an OM617 or maybe 616 engine, if you have a transmission controller or a manual transmission, or an Isuzu 4b1t, if you're stupid rich and have all of the foregoing, or a Chevy small block (similar to LS conversion).

I don't know, but Trailhead 's solution is probably in the neighborhood of 10k. I'd rather spend that than have another Rover engine for sure, if I had 10k laying around and was desperate for an engine. My Disco just isn't that nice, though. It is a weekend jeep type vehicle now. I hope Trailhead makes a kit of some sort for us mortals.

I've spoken with a guy in Australia who can be found on the Internet and he spent 30k (not sure what kind of dollars) putting an LS6 and 6 speed transmission, with Toyota transfer case in his.

Cannibal has engines. But check that link above. Saying Cannibal here after reading that thread is like screaming **** in church.
