Default Looking for advice

I have an option to buy a Freelander, 2001, diesel for a reasonable price. I know the car has had a lot of service over the years and recently the clutch, brake discs and brake pads were replaced.

However, currently the SRS plus hill descent light are on. The seller informed me it will cost roughly 1800 to get a new computer.
My biggest question currently is:

'Since I am not familiar with the Freelander, what other problems can I expect due to this computer failure ?'
'Second, having read some of the posts here on the forum, could it be that there is no computer failure ? That the cause of these warning lights have something to do with the recent change of the brake discs, brake pads and clutch ?'

Third question is: Is buying a Freelander diesel a good idea or am I setting myself up for constant visits to a mechanic ?

Appreciate any ideas and advice

Norbert
