Default ECU problems

I have a 2002 freelander 2ltr diesel, I keep getting multiple ECU faults I have been told to do a power latch to reset the ECU and get an accurate fault code I know it works on other makes but will it work or do any damage to this car?

I've done a latch on the KV6 without harm, but not at all familiar with the diesel. I know on the Range Rover of the same year, you can wipe out the NAV if you don't let it power down before removing the battery cable.
