Currently my girlfriend is looking into replacing her BMW X3 and is looking at the LR2 as a possibility and I was just wondering if there are any common issues with the vehicles.

Hello, I just bought my wife an '11 LR2. We are having an issue with the fuel system showing a leak (an EVAP issue). 1st trip back to the dealership they just cleared the code. The 2nd trip they re-sealed the gas cap area, the 3rd trip they replaced the gas cap, the 4th trip is scheduled for this weekend. My wife is very discouraged but aside from this re-occurring issue she does like the car. It runs fine in spite of the check engine light that comes on when this error occurs. i think overall its just a nuisance but her friends are telling her to dump it. We bought the full warranty (I'd recommend it...$3500 for 7yr/100k). Because it was last year's model we got it for $39k. It's very quiet and has good power for a 6 cylinder.
I am in the market for a new vehicle and I'm considering the LR2. The local dealer in my area have some nice deals on 2011 models. All my friends are telling me not to purchase a Land Rover, they have too many problems and are not reliable. None of my friends have ever owned a Land Rover so I don't know where they are getting this information from. Can anyone tell me anything about the LR2, good or bad.

That could not be the vehicles fault, it is possible that a gas attendant stuffed it up when fuelling it. Happened to my mother's 2011 Jetta and she had to end up replacing the entire fuel tank as it is one unit.

We have a 2008 and went out and bought a second 2010, which tells you how we feel about LR2s. Yes, there are issues along the way, not the least of which is that we have experienced the same frustrating lack of response from the dealer. We discovered a foreign car repair shop that has made all the difference. The 2008 is out of warranty so all the work will be done there. We bought an extended warranty for the 2010 but will take it to the dealer ONLY for warranty work. We are on our fourth visit for a headlight leveling issue which they insist is the result of Land Rover sending them defective parts. At some point I may lose my patience and take it to the foreign car repair shop even if I have to pay for it out of pocket. Anyway, we love these things and they are the nicest cars we could ever afford. One of the members here has a tag line that reads owning a Land Rover is like dating a supermodel...so well said!

Yea, I drive a Disco Series II so I like to think that its a mutually abusive relationship. I abuse it off road and it abuses my wallet .
The only reason I was checking because I remember what a POS the Freelander was and wasn't sure if some of that carried over to the LR2.

We've replaced the alternator on the 2008 LR2 four times, albeit the last time was from a leaking radiator hose dripping coolant into it. Anyone else experience this? Rovin4life, you reference the Volvo t60. Are you aware of alternator issues with those? Tnx.
I've had my LR2 since 2008 and no major issues and what minor things have come up were covered by the warranty... even the battery! I'm a little concerned about ownership costs after the 4-year warranty is up, but I have very low mileage so not too concerned. I'd say go for it if you don't plan on keeping it more than 4 years... or just get the extended warranty up-front. You can also negotiate in a maintenance plan as I did that covered me for 3 years (6 visits every 5,000 mi/6 mos) and that saves a bundle as oil changes alone are $100+.
