Looking at 2 Mercedes Benz

Guys, An elderly neighbor of mine has 2 Merecedes I have been looking at the last few days. She said she was considering selling off at least one of these. 1991 560 SEL Black with the classic red leather and red stripping. 90K on it, some rust on the bumpers, inspected until 02/11. New tires, appears solid, she just spent 1200 getting it serviced/inpsected in January at MB dealer. 1992 300 E - 120K on it White with the camel/saddle leather interior in perfect condition. Spent 3600 in Jan getting it serviced and inspected at dealership. New Michelins on it from Sears, new Battery from Sears, no rust obvious, been garaged since new, paint glossy, looks like a new one. Also inspected until 02/11. I told her I was interested in either or both If we can work out a price that is fair to both of us. Waiting to see which one she wants to part with, I think she is sentimentally attached to the 560 SEL, it was her hubbies favorite. I would be happy to have either one. Anyone had one of these before? I had a 1986 420SEL and really enjoyed it. The 560 would be awesome, but the 300 looks to be in better condition. I am hoping for the best.

Man you have it bad! As if Rovers weren't bad enough about maintenance you want a German race car? LOL. I want one too, but lots of years around them lead me to believe I can't afford both a Merc and a LR. I really want a W123 300SDL. Good luck finding one that isn't a rust bucket and below 200k miles.

Yeah, I agree the diesel is the more desirable, I know a few people with them.

I am really interested in the 300 E. It is a straight 6 and very clean. The 560 isn't bad but not pristine. I think I can get either one cheaper than you would first think. The lady has her hands full and wants to sell one. She is attached to the 560 emotionally due to late husband, she let her daughter have the 300 then they dumped it back on her and she's tired of paying insurance. She only put 763 miles on it in a year.

I would love to get either one.

I would go for that 300E, the 6 is reputedly nearly as long lived as the diesel and still capable of 30-32mpg. Nice way to offset what your Disco gets.

Have you test drove any of the newer AMG's yet...insanely fast. C55, E63, and the C65 are sweet rides.

Their prices are insanely high as well. I love the looks of that new Lexus on the ads where they shatter the wine glass.

I am hoping to get one of these two for somwhere around $1500 or so.

She told me her daughter had taken over payments on the 300E a few yeaars ago then dumped it back on her when it needed some work. She wants to get rid of it to avoid paying insurance while it sits in the garage most of the time.

I am staying in touch with her hoping to get it.

I hope it works out for you. At the least, you will have something nice to drive while you are working on the other.
