Default Range Rover L322 No start, Trans Fail Safe, only 5th gear on cluster display

Hello all.

My friend brought me his 04 L322 due to a no start issue.

He said he has replaced the starter as well as the fuel pump in attempt to fix this issue.

The truck will shift from park to neutral just fine, but the cluster only displays 5th gear. The shifter displays the proper gear..

When the key is inserted, the steering column works fine, as does the rest of the stuff..HVAC, Radio, etc.. Key turns all of the way, but won't crank...not even a click.

I inspected the trans position switch connector. It was very wet, so I dried it up and applied a little bit of dielectric grease. Now the cluster gear selection indicator displays nothing. And now i have trans failsafe faults on the cluster.

I'm currently using the All Comms Software. The ECM fails communication, the transferbox has all sorts of faults like "DME Lost From Can"..

I've been through all of the fuses...At least I think I have..

Would a bad XYZ cause the l322 not to start??

Anything I could double check?

SOS

Yes.

Don't concern yourself with the t-case faults just yet, those could be completely erroneous, or could be something that needs to be taken care of, but will not cause your no start.

The LR switch is pretty pricey, might want to look into one for a BMW, same switch, but the wiring is shorter, so it would need a little modification, but much cheaper the last time I checked.

Also, let your friend know that a fuel pump will never be the root cause of a no-crank situation, but not a bad idea to have a known good one on this truck, they fail pretty often.

Could it have been showing gear 5 on the cluster because fuse 37 was in when he towed it.. And maybe the ignition switch is failing??? The key turns all of the way, but the starter will not crank.

No.

Gear display on the cluster, and P/N-starter enable, is based on XYZ switch.

I dont know why he changed the fuel pump. He had a guy that works on old muscle cars look at it before he brought it to me.

So if the xyz is telling the car that its in 5th, and not in park or neutral, will it still start?

No.

The P/N switch controls one of the pins on the starter relay, with this not working correctly, it will not allow cranking.

Well, after waiting forever for the part, I replaced the XYZ switch with a new one.

The cluster still only displays 5th gear. Anything else you'd suggest trying??

Could it be the hi-lo motor? Could there be a logged fault that the allcomms isn't reading or clearing??

She's still sitting. I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. I recently took out the t-case selector motor and gave it a good spin, but to no avail. Everything is the same. I tried again to calibrate the new xyz switch using some directions provided on one of the forums... nothing. Still only displays gear 5 on the dash and after moving the shifter around a bit, it displays nothing. Using allcomms, I cannot communicate with the Trans ecu, nor the EMS ecu... I'm not sure if this is because one is faulty, or if it's just pissed. I did tru anothe rems ecu on it, but still no comm...

Also, It does still have a trans fault, all of the coolant has slowly leaked out of the front passenger side (NAS) at the front of the motor onto the ground, and I noticed that the fan blade looks like a bear tried to eat it and it then got reinstalled LOL...

I just want the thing to start, I don't even care if it moves at this point.

HELP!
