Road Tripping in April 2015 (NJ to FL)
I am getting excited, planning an adventure with my son in early April. So far these are the plans for out mini epic journey:
Tues night leave home in NJ (8 hour drive)
Hotel Tuesday night in NC
Wednesday AM arrive Uwharrie National Park in NC. I hear that there are some great trails for the Disco2.
4x4ing, hiking, canoeing all day Wednesday in park.
Wednesday PM - Camp in NC Park
Thursday AM Leave for Florida (11 hour drive)
Thurs night - arrive Peace River, Arcadia Fl. camp
Friday Morning 1st leg canoe trip
Friday night camp on river
Saturday morning 2nd leg canoe trip
Saturday - 4pm Leave Arcadia/canoeing
Saturday - 8pm hotel in Miami
sunday 9am - 4pm University of Miami "Accepted Student Day"
Sunday Night/ Monday Long Drive back to NJ
monday 4pm arrive home
Any feedback on the Uwharrie? Google searches, reviews and you tube videos all show that this should be a great park to camp overnight, with lots of trails for 4x4ing.
The Peace River in Florida looks pretty laid back, perfect for our heavily laden canoe full of gear.

I will get you a better trail map than the one the forest service provides. Uwharrie is a great place, we go there every spring and fall for Land Rover rallies.

Made it to Miami
The Uwharrie National Park was spectacular. The ORV trails were well marked and well maintained. Camping there was as easy as pulling into any place that looked good. The Disco2 performed flawlessly, even on the trails marked difficult. I did rub a tree so it cost me a patch of paint and thule roof rack mount. The rack was easily repaired trailside. Four wheeling with the canoe on the roof was interesting.
Peace river was nice too. It was very strange camping around all the gators. There were alot of other campers and no one else seemed very concerned. It was a "dont bother the gators and they wont bother you" type of situation.
The disco2 did have to suffer when we returned. My keys were lost to the river and now I use a screwdriver as an ignition key. Now shopping for a matched door, ignition, keyset.
Looking forward to the drive back north. The Land Rov er gets alot of thumbs ups on the road from other drivers. This has been a great trip so far.
