RE: remote starter
I have a 06 Lr3 and just installed a Viper 5500 remote Start. I had it installed at Visions Electronics here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The reason I went to Visions is the installer had done a few other Lr3's. I was told the install is straight forward, nothing special. The system works just fine so far.

what is your total cost in visions electronics labor plus auto start module itself?

The only downside to remote start systems on these trucks, is that most of them require a key to be in the vehicle. This adds to the cost of the install, but also makes the truck much less secure, if someone were to try and steal it.
As far as doing it, as long as the shop you have preform the work is capable, and use a good unit, you should not create problems with the vehicles computers.

A Viper dealer I spoke with in Rockville MD this evening, indicated that a key must be cleverly located in the LR3 for the system to work properly. He indicated that even the valet key would work.
He indicated that he hadn't installed remote starters on a lot of LR3's, but that they had done a few and had been successful.
He indicated I am looking at about $299 plus whatever the valet key will cost at the dealership.

FWIW I just had a remote starter installed in my LR3. It only came with one key and the cost was the same as having a second key fob made at the dealer. There is only one LR dealer in town and they wanted $600 for a second key/fob. 2-way remote starter (Compustar 901 Pro) installed was $580. The remote starter includes keyless entry with two fobs. Yes you need a key, but it doesn't have to be the full factory key fob. I had a local locksmith make a key that will unlock and start the LR3. He cloned my existing key RFID chip. The key doesn't include the fob for keyless entry. I had two of these keys made, one for the remote starter and one for my second key. The key that is kept in the vehicle is hidden under the dash and the physical shaft of the key is cut off so that it can't be used to start the car. Plus if the installer is any good it is put in a difficult place to get at. Be easier to drag the car onto a flatbed. All they need from the key is the RFID chip so they can trigger key sense.
If you are in Ottawa Everest Locksmith on Bank Street can make you the spare key. I had In Car Electronics Mobile Upfitters of Electronic Accessories 613 229 0773 do the install, they were the only competent installers I talked to.

If doing it buy a well known remote starter kit
The reason I say this is, when I bought my used LR3 it had an aftermarket remote starter but I ended up removing it because didn't work, when removed it look a very cheap kit with poor installation done.
Make sure you buy from good reputation brand and get it professionally installed. (Or by yourself as long you fill comfortable with wiring diagrams and splicing wire connections)
