Default “Front Knuckle Extender (LR136701)” Purpose??

I’ve recently done some adjustments to get the 18” factory steel wheel to fit my P400 90. After much research I thought I had everything right, until when mounting tires I discovered this knuckle extender is preventing fronts from fitting.

Here is the part with diagram and explanation (https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part/1123887/landrover/lr136701/extension-front-knuckle.html)

I cannot for the life of me figure out what this metal bit, with its small weak bolt, is for. I have since removed them to allow the steelies to fit and nothing feels different.

Anyone have knowledge of this?

Probably a mass damper. It purpose is likely to reduce a very specific noise or vibration problem. It may or may not be something you notice.

Lots of discussions on this in past threads. It is a mud scraper and I believe it is only on the 20s but I could be wrong on that. I took it off as well to fit my 18s

Dropping my P400 off at the shop tomorrow to have the OEM white 18” steels fitted. Someone else posted they had done this on a P400 … requires several changes to get them to fit including removal of the front mud scraper. Did you change the rear calipers or just do the grind?

I put on the Tuffant alloys not steel. I heard others that have done it though with spacers. Would love to hear how it turns out. For the rears I ended up grinding.

You'll need to swap the calipers, spacers and grind the new calipers too. The OEM offset +41.5 is a big problem. The alloys that work have offsets in the 20s. Tuffant Simpson ar 27, Kimberley are 29. Dakar Zero are 25.

Front mud scraper comes off in a jiffy. But fronts will still need spacers for steelies.

All been tried and tested.
