Guess you didn't pay close attention to my oil change video Paul, lol. No big deal - the Mityvac may well shut off before the Defender pan is completely extracted (max capacity is 8.8 liters on paper, but the safety switch may cut off before that volume to avoid spills from overfilling.) Just flip the switch, pump a few quarts from the Mityvac into your recycle can - or wherever you store the used oil - and resume vacuuming whatever is left in the engine. Minor inconvenience.

Thanks, useful info for me I use Castrol Edge too. The first oil change in a new car is always memorable. Since you always need to use oil of high-quality brands and only according to the instructions, I have already dealt with old models of the Range Rover and I know how to change the oil myself. I use 5W-30 oil, on this site https://davesoilchange.com/5w-30-oil-guide/ I looked at the best oils of this marking, you can choose the one that suits you.

Default 24 p300 defender oil filter

Thanks for the details on the oil. What oil filters are correct/recommended for a 2l turbo p300 other than the oem. Thanks in advance

Default Oil filter cover

Has anyone had issues removing the oil filter cover? I've been using a 14 flute socket but I can't seem to get the over off. This is the vehicle's second oil change, so I wonder if it was over tightened by the dealer? Anyone experience this before?

I have. I performed my second oil change last week. I also did the first service. I know I hand tightened the filter cover after the first service but it was impossible for me to remove the cover with my hand this time. I had to order a 14 flute oil filter wrench to get it off.

I have been changing my own oil every 5K miles for the past 70K. I have always used the socket-type tool mentioned above.

The threads are plastic and are fine. They do not require a large amount of force when unseating or installing the cap.

The mating thread connection is difficult to start accurately, I recall. Once you get the cap off, I advise you check both threads for cross-threading. A ham-handed mechanic could very easily apply a big wrench and do damage to both threading surfaces, I suspect.

I hope all goes well. Enjoy !

I'm in the USA, and I think this:
https://www.castrol.com/en_us/united...html#tab_0w-20

product sheet - https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/2024DB83077B782080258C2F003EE800/$File/wepp-ddufff.pdf

is the same thing as this this dealer oil - https://www.roverparts.com/engine/mo...VXZ2oUw4P43-tw

The former can be purchased at Walmart for $26.00 for a 5 quart jug.

can someone check me here?

It doesn't show on website but MSDS shows STJLR.03.5006 which is newer JLR oil specification.
Interesting.
