18's will give you dozens of tire options, but require a change to the brake calipers if the factory wheel was not originally an 18.

19's there is something like 2 tire options. 99% of the people here will tell you to stay far away from 19s simply because there aren't options for tires.

As far as brands, that'll really depend on your budget.

If I was spec'ing out new rims and tires I would make sure I understood any weight changes to the tire/rim combo over what I have today. Any weight gain in that combo will be noticeable when you hit the go peddle. Any reduction in weight will give you some more zip. Unsprung weight has real impact on performance.

slavb, did your 75th come with black wheels or did you have them painted aftermarket? In other words, were black wheels an option? I've only seen them with body-color wheels.

SHOP | TuffAnt USA if you decide to go with 18" and the caliper mod.

The dealer near me had a 110 and a 90, and couldn't sell either with the color matched wheels. They painted the wheels black themselves.

Black wheels aren't an "option", but the dealers are modifying them to sell them.

I really don’t know. Looks like the wheels on my 75 exactly the same like on other 20” or 22” defenders. May be they replaced them. I like it more than the car matching color

Is the caliper mod needed just for the rear? I never hear about modding the front - which I would think would have the larger calipers.

Only the rear. Those calipers have a couple of "fins" on them which many including myself, have ground down about 1/4" so the smaller wheels will clear. There are a couple of excellent posts on how to modify these.

So, is that all it really takes to fit 18” wheels on a 6 Cylinder Defender? Grinding 1/4” off some fins on rear calipers? That doesn’t sound too bad Will definitely research this.

On a side note: How do you reply to a specific post, other than hitting the “Quote” button? For example, I see a post from Bob. I want to reply to Bob’s post so that he sees it and replies back, but I want to keep it in the public thread so we can all learn from it. Thanks all!
