Default 20 vs 22 inch wheels and "off roading"

So I have posted bit about this in the V8 group but I think it's possible others have experience.
Coming from a jeep wrangler rubicon to a defender 110 V8. I wanted to get the 20 inch rims but the only dealer under sticker had the 22s.
I have been debating putting on BFG trail terrains for a bit of the off roading look and maybe the possibility of light trail riding. I did not go offroad a lot on the jeep but some dirt trails etc would be nice to have the option.
So anyway today I went to hop a curb and it made such a thud, I'm assuming it was the curb hitting the rim from such a small sidewalk.
Don't see any damage but man I at least want to hop a curb etc when needed so not I am thinking maybe I need to drop to 20s. Or maybe I came in to fast (which I don't think I did)
So any comments on what you have done in 22s and pictures of the tires would be great.

i ended up buying someone else's canceled order that was 90% to the spec i was waiting for. it came with 22's and i swapped them for 20's almost immediately. the 22's are nice looking and fine for the road, but i'd never use them for any off-road application. just can't get enough sidewall. i went with the LR 6 spoke black wheel and KO2s and never looked back. for me, it's the perfect balance. great off-road performance for the "light" off-roading i'm going to do with this truck, and totally fine on the roads. the performance and the looks suit my tastes way more than the 22's. good luck!

I think that is going to be what I need to do, were you able to get a deal on the 20 inch rims, I have been looking for used in black.
Did you sell your 22s?
and they look great!!!

What size tires are you running and did you add a lift?

thanks! i made multiple calls to all the dealers in my region (norcal) and through some phone haggling was able to get a "decent" deal. they're still pricey rims and there's really no incentive for them to discount them too much. my experience selling OEM rims has never been great, and i did list the 22's on assorted sites for a few weeks prior to the swap (while waiting for the 20's to arrive) but only got one low ball / scam offer. so i just offered them to the dealer who did the swap and they knocked a few more bucks off the deal. sure i could have hung on to them and tried harder to hard to sell them, and maybe made a few more bucks. but didn't want them piled up in my garage for who knows how long, so went the path of least resistance.

if you're asking me, they're 275/55/r20 and no lift. the fronts just barely touch the mudflaps at full turn of the wheel, but not really noticeable or an issue.

your situation is just like mine, I see a used set for 2k with tires that I may jump on.
for 5 with rims in great shape. I suspect they are 1k each plus tires.

pulled the trigger on used gloss black, 3 k miles under 2k for 5. Don't think I can beat that.

Can the V8 models do the 18” rear caliper conversion?
