Default 2021 - Front Windshield Wiper Spray

Is it just me or is the lower Wiper Washer nozzle 100% useless? Mine sprays directly down onto the bottom of the windshield...talking to the dealer they said there "might" be a service bulletin on it soon but not sure and that the design on the 2020 is different and actually works.

I can't imagine the design was changed from 20 to 21s? Mine (2020) work well, two nozzles over each wiper blade, squirting (rather than spraying) just enough fluid to minimize runoff. No complaints here.

I've used it once and it seemed OK. Though I'm still scarred from my Series IIa experience. Basically, you were lucky if the motor did the wiping and you didn't have to manually work the motor arm that was on the dash.

I think I'm perfect for the Defender experience as I come into it with VERY low expectations....

I have a 2021 and the wiper spray and wipers in general are pretty bad at removing debris, bugs, etc. Love my truck though! So I just tell myself it looks rugged.

Default 2022 Wiper washer fluid nozzle sprayer is useless. It doesn't even hit my windshield

2022 Wiper washer fluid nozzle sprayer is useless. It doesn't even hit my windshield. I've gone through 3 gallons of fluid in 3 winter months. Plus when you turn on the wipers to clean your windshield, it doesn't automatically shut off! It's so annoying. I do not like the set up at all! I'm in total agreement with you- Poor design!! With heater on or off.
Is there a way of realigning the sprayer?

I reviewed TOPiX and the Workshop manual. Nothing aligned with your problem. There was a lot about "contaminated" fluid tanks and how to fix that. Not sure what "contaminants" means, but it could very well be small particles from manufacture process that have clogged things up. Also, the continued flow is out of their spec. They write about how many milliseconds various activities with the wipers / washers should occur. If it's still flowing, then again a problem. Since you have a 2022, it's likely not over 20k and should still be under warranty. To me, going into the Dealer is a HUGE PITA, but at this point, I would recommend it. It's either in spec and you were expecting something else or it definitely needs to be repaired. My Defender does NOT wash like all my other vehicles. I too dislike the fluid coming from the wiper arms, but it sounds like you are having way more issues than that. Good luck and regrets, but you likely need to set up a Service appointment. Crossing my fingers that they do it in a reasonable amount of time.

This thread peaked my monkey curiosity. So I went out and looked at the setup closely. The two outer arm sprayers are much like traditional hood mounted nozzles. They have a small ball with a hole drilled through it. The ball can be aimed by inserting a pin of corresponding size in the hole and leavering the ball to a better position. Much like the hood mounted ones, it is a trial and error process. The inner two nozzles are fixed and apparently have no adjustment, but their aim is almost directly onto the windscreen. While the traditional setup is perhaps better for bug removal, the wiper mounted one are better for mud. Frankly you really should not use them for that, as it will eventually scratch the windscreen. A bucket of water and gentle wiping is best for that, unless you like to have a fan of scratches on the windscreen.

My front wipers & washers work fine. My issue is with the rear window washer. The Defender accumulates a ton of road salt on the back window in winter. It takes so much washer fluid to make any progress in dissolving the crud stuck to the rear window. I wonder why our old LR4 rear window was so easy to clean. Brief squirt and a couple of wiper swipes and the rear glass was clean. Maybe having the rear window nozzle mounted up high on the LR4 made a difference.

Regarding your comments about clearing mud from the windscreen, when off-roading I sometimes bring a hand pump sprayer to easily clean dust, dirt, mud, salt spray, etc., from any sports equipment after use like a kayak, surfboard, SUP, or similar. Seems like a great addition for an off-road excursion where mud or dust could pose a problem. Takes up little space, and can even be used for a personal trail side shower.

And, this looks a whole lot cheaper than the LR portable rinse system accessory
