Default 2023.5 digital dash dimming issue

I was pleased when my 2023.5 Defender was delivered with the digital dash but it dims way too often, normally in overcast weather. It seems to stay at max brightness most (but not all) of the time when it's sunny out. It changes from bright to dim constantly when overcast. It's a given in mine that if it's overcast, the panel can change constantly to the point that over a 1 minute period, it can change from bright/dim/bright. The brightness adjustment **** works, but will only raise it to the max brightness the dash is willing to go to at any given time.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to waste my time bringing it to the dealer for them to tell me "this is normal".

'This is normal"

Change your settings from auto to dark or bright mode in Pivi.

Loads of options and settings in there. Worth exploring it and the manual. Lots of handy features to customize your dash and preferred settings.

agree w/ @GavinC … that it is ‘normal’.

i too wish for more brightness and consistency in the auto dim functionality.

i keep hoping for improvements with pivi os updates. the brightness may be a limitation of the actual display though.

I’ve experienced the same thing, believe it happened after a recent update as it hadn’t acted like this in the previous year of ownership and just started noticing it in the last several months. And yes, it is full brightness all day in total light, then when it gets near dusk, it dims down, only to go full brightness again once it gets past dusk into darkness. Hopefully a forthcoming software update will correct this situation.

^ Totally agree, this is something new and annoying at dusk. Also, I recently came upon a cop running radar in a tunnel and could not see my speed since it dimmed so dark.

I do have it set to dark. Sounds like I'm not the only one who is experiencing this. Hoping as mentioned that we get a software update to address this.

I already tried changing the setting to auto, dark and bright and the digital dash part still does whatever it wants.

My 2022 and 2023.5 D90 digital dash did (does) this.

Mine too - I just hadn’t gotten around to posting in the forum about it. Glad I'm not the only one.

I have a 2023.5 110 X on presumably 3.30 or 3.31 - it was built late summer / fall and I picked it up in December. Haven’t gotten 3.3.2 yet which is annoying…
