I've had this issue on my '21 since I bought it. It's one of the only things that really pisses me off.

I just want to throw this out there. I do *not* have this issue on my 2020 110 X w/ full TFT cluster. Thus, it must not affect all L663. It puzzles me to read about it. Must not be awesome.

I have just noticed this recently, like within the past couple months. My dash, which I keep on full map, got so dim I couldn't see it without lifting my sunglasses.
It was bright outside, but cloudy off and on.
I also have HUD so I just left it.
My headlights were switched to parking mode, which I do sometimes because the auto mode won't switch them off, so I guess it was dark enough sometimes.

I found if I leave the lights on auto it doesn't go so dim.
But I still see it switch back and forth.
I also think I switched the setting to light mode, when I was trying to get Android Auto to display the map properly.
I don't think that helped in any way.

Default Dimming Dash

Explanation from Princeton Land Rover service. "Take your headlights off automatic setting." Kinda defeats the luxury of having that option

l don't like the automatic headlights. Every time you drive under trees or anything unless it's a sunny day they come on.

lt's not just the Defender. Our Suzuki does it as well.
At least on that vehicle it's got a proper rotary light switch on the stalk and you can turn the switch to "off" which just leaves the DRL's on.

With the Defender the only way to stop it happening is to turn the headlights on.
lf you turn them off, the "auto" comes back on again after a minute or so.

This is in the U.K. version it may be different in the USA

Do we know where the light sensor on the L663 is for the cluster/infotainment? I wonder if a strategic piece of tape would force it to think it's night, which would then of course keep the cluster bright... which is why I ask. On an older car I once had, I covered up that light sensor and it fixed a dimming issue.

(perhaps it's connected to the rear view cameras/rain sensor/stuff up in the windshield, in which case, may be out of luck)
