Due to a lack of information from Land Rover and the dealer at time of ordering, the decision to order the satin ppf over Eiger Gray was a crap shoot.
the pricing of $4900 for a “full’ body wrap seemed reasonable here in California. My preferred wrap guy, after looking at it said pricing wasn’t bad for the coverage but quality of wrap was poor. I agree. Here are my observations.
The look is great. Satin over dark gray has a nice ominous look to it. At first glance the quality looks fine.
But, the factory does a very labor friendly wrap after the build is complete. Obviously using pattern cut pieces and not removing any parts like door handles, etc.
Since they didn’t remove handles, their pattern leaves the door handle cups uncovered. Serious deficiency as this is one of the most likely areas to get scratched by finger nails, keys, etc. They also did not wrap the handles themselves. This results in some visible glossy gray and some satin.
I didn’t order the color matched spare tire cover, but be forewarned they won’t wrap that at factory if you do order it.
The used two pieces of ppf to wrap the rear quarters with a poorly butted seam on the corner edge. A quality installer would never do that. They didn’t remove any trim to wrap underneath, just butted up near those parts
Overall quality in other areas is okay.
As it’s a satin wrap I never expected LR to wrap the gloss black bumpers, rocker covers, mirrors, roof and grill trim pieces. Many of which have exposure to scratches, rock chips and cargo loading in rear. No complaint on LR here, but a heads up that if you want paint protection on gloss black, you’ll be spending some money.
My Defender is sitting in the shop today getting handle cups wrapped in stealth ppf, door handles in black vinyl and front bumper (ex-panel with a zillion holes on it), rear bumper, rockers, grill trim pieces and mirrors wrapped in clear ppf. $1700 to complete the job. I didn’t do the roof due to additional time (with expedition rack removal), money and the fact that no one will ever see up there under the rack.
in summary, if I had it to do over I would not have ordered the satin wrap, opting instead to have the satin wrap done by aftermarket installer along with the clear on gloss black. Would have cost about the same with a much cleaner and higher quality install.

I really appreciate this write up. I am strongly considering getting in lone for a V8 to replace my X. Been struggling with getting the V8 or V8 carpathian. This definitely helps me with that.
My 2023 arrived a few weeks ago in Gondwana Stone with the factory satin wrap. Personally I think it came out really well although I have little experience with these wraps. I do agree on a couple of your points, the handles and back areas could have been done. Regarding the rear quarters, these are not two piece on mine but a continuous wrap until the top diagonal edge which has a neat professional cut out line on that part only. I do have the matched spare tire cover and it is wrapped except for where the "Defender" logo is, you can tell the difference in these pics. Anyway, overall I'm more than happy with it and would happily order again. Like you said, the satin wrap certainly gives an awesome look to the vehicle which ever way you go. Enjoy.

Nice looking Defender! Good summary of your experience too.
For other readers of the thread, I’d like to clarify my comments on the spare tire cover to be completely fair to the factory wrap…
I was told by the dealer that the color matched spare tire carrier would not be wrapped. I couldn’t order the cover at the time as it was constrained, so my comments above were made based on that info. I’m glad to hear they did wrap yours and It’s understandable why they didn’t try to wrap the raised Defender logo.
Having wrapped a few cars over the years, I couldn’t imagine ever doing a factory PPF.
I trust my guy and his team to do the job right, and exactly to our agreed upon specs. Plus, I know who to go to if and when there are any issues, or if follow up is needed.
I get the allure of having it all done before delivery, but I think precision detail stuff like this is best done by a local pro who you know and trust.
What price range would one expect to pay an independent for that?
I had a guy who ppf'ed my whole H1 except the roof for 1400. It was in 2006 and I knew him and he did it cheap, I know.
He ppf'ed a bunch of vehicles for me.
I cant believe what they charge for that stuff anymore.
They make more money than I do.
I received several quotes to satin wrap a 110 in matte, both were in the $9k range. These were local specialists where I live in SoCal. If it were around $5k I'd do it in a heartbeat but $9k for an aesthetic upgrade seems egregious.
4500 in Portland to do 10 year XPEL (gloss) PPF on my 110 X. This included full front w/ headlights, all the sides, mirrors and the gloss black wheel arch and lower rocker trims on my X, and new Defender badge on the hood which they remove to do the hood PPF.
Note that for this #, they did not do anything above the window belt line except the mirrors. (ie the upper pillars A/B/C/D, the grey "signature" square on the rear windows, roof, or the rear cargo door or rear side corner pieces). I guess I could have added it but didn't seem like a big deal.
Pretty pricey but I love that I can now take it offroad and not worry about the striping.
