If anyone tries the markjlr suggestion, please report back the results, also your engine type.

Extremely interesting.....

Many have done it and seem happy but you aren't just unplugging stop/start.

That's part of the battery monitoring system. Unplugging prevents battery data from being sent to the ECM which then will not engage start/stop as a fail-safe. Other systems are also involved.

Aside for the unknown (safety?) systems it would impact, it would seem like a bad idea simply because it's a glass matt battery and that may have something to do with charging. AGM's are temperamental.

@The Insider any info on this? We're clearly just wild-*** guessing.

Happened to me twice today. Seems like the “starter-motor-generator “ cant turn over the engine. The motor defaults to the other “primary?” starter when i restart.

LOL My service dept told me to sit down with their “technology specialist” when i described this issue. Maybe i shouldn’t but i find that kind of insulting

I have definitely *never* had the 110 in Eco mode... always "auto" on the setting.

Happened to me today as well. ‘22 Defender that I picked up 9 days ago - has about 800 miles already.

I was sitting at a light and the cluster showed the silver Defender instead of the gauges. I was able to get it powered up before the light turned green but still not a good look!

Said it before on the forum and I'll say it again. I only ever saw stuff like this when my Defender was new and/or had not been driven for a while and thus likely to have a depleted battery charge. Since then I've been topping up the battery from time to time if I'm not driving enough, and I've had no issues.

Yes, I do remember you mentioning this and agree it could be related. I monitor battery voltage via a dongle & when my Defender did not restart and put itself in park, in the middle of a busy intersection, voltage was 14.1.

One point on my Defender: It only started doing this after it was at the dealership for 2 weeks for repairs. I would bet the battery was indeed depleted with the updating/service they were doing. I could.

This is an extremely problematic safety issue and someone's going to have an actual accident.... Last incident with mine was pulling out of a Starbucks. I was in a turn lane / lane of traffic in the middle of the road in Lake Oswego OR ... Fedex truck barreling down on me from behind, changed lanes to avoid slowing down. I was worried someone might be following that truck closely.

My car did it after about 20 miles of highway driving and having gone 900 miles in the previous week. Definitely not a low battery charge issue

Mine stalled at the first stop light after driving over 200 miles. So I agree, I doubt it is a battery issue. I now turn off auto stop whenever I drive. It was quite embarrassing to be fumbling to restart my vehicle with a line of cars behind me honking..
