Well this thread is timely, I've had my 2022 for just over a week with 1500km on the dial. Is this where y'all are seeing the issue? I have insurance coverage but still.
Yes, that's it.
Of the pictures posted on these threads, your strike subjectively looks to be larger and higher than the norm.
The norm is less than one-half the way up the black part with a strike mark which for many of us who have been driving a long time would at the worst create a small pit in a windscreen, but never a crack -- and certainly not a 6 inch plus one.
I studied my hood (bonnet) and noted the height of the normal strike is the same as the aft end of the lifted part part of the hood. It appears that a very small particle is being accelerated up the surface of the hood and then it flies unimpeded into the glass.
All photos show the crack reaching the edge of the glass -- so this may support the idea that this could be a point of failure as well, possibly.
I call this the "zero thickness" initial test. I will keep digging around for something to apply to the window which is thicker, if necessary, to stop these rock grain strikes.
Let us know how it goes with the Shatter-X, I am willing to try it after I get a new windshield installed.
Going to have to resort to an ugly bug deflector to deflect the rocks away from the windscreen. 🤦🏽 Please no! 😆

😂 Exactly. But Grandpa probably never complained about glass safety, replacing windshields or how the glass was thin. They just install those butt ugly accessories and drove 100K miles without issue.

I am thinking the second thickness will be: https://www.racingoptics.com/ trimmed to cover the black portion of the windshiled at the bottom. This, I suppose, is the stuff which is on nascar vehicles and on drivers helmet windscreens?
Then the third maybe be some thin sheet rubber and the fourth and final thickness test will be 1/32 of an inch thick (0.035 in ) formica cut to fit and glued to the black portion of the bottom of the test windscreen:
I believe these windscreens are going to keep breaking, unprotected, so we have plenty of test windscreens to futz with into the future ...................
Enjoy!

3 chips and a crack in 16k miles. Seems like every road trip over 500 miles I get a chip or crack. Safelite had an aftermarket windshield in stock, so I went with that. Time will tell if its any better than OEM glass. An upcoming trip at the end of the month will be a good test.
