Ref L663 Defender 110 X option 022BG 3-Zone Climate Control ($400) versus option 022BS 3-Zone Climate Control With Rear Cooling Assist ($1100)? What does the 'rear cooling assist' do? Is it worth it?

 

Rear cooling assist runs the coolant lines from the main system back to another blower unit mounted in the driver's side of the rear cargo space and adds a single vent in the C-Pillar to cool the rear cargo area. On the opposite side of the cargo area there is a dial allowing manual control of the rear blower, but not temp. You can also control the rear (cargo) air via the Climate app on the Pivi pro.

 

I have a German Shepherd who loves this feature. If you plan to travel with pets it’s a great addition.

 

Agreed. This was tremendously helpful with 2 Labs on some long road trips this past summer between Colorado and Texas. Helped keep them very comfortable and happy. Worth the spend.

 

Can 3 zone climate control be added after production? I didn't order it and I thought I did.

 

Thanks drcoop for your thorough reply. I have noticed a box mounted immediately aft of the 2nd row (in some pics) and wondered if that is the blower unit you refer to. I did not opt for the 3rd row seats, and don't have dogs to put in the rear. I may forgo the 'rear cooling assist' option to save me $700 and gain the cargo space. Best, Mantis
