5.0 V8 Engine Oil Question
Does everyone run 0W20 in this engine, it just seems to be a very thin oil to provide adequate protection. I know many OEM's use this spec to meet EPA MPG requirements, but typically not the best application for longevity of the engines. Any input is appreciated
Yes. If it says 0W20 in your environment then you should use that
The octa engine is a totally different engine - a BMW sourced engine. So the specs and requirements would be totally different

I totally understand what you are saying in regards to 0W20, warranty, and LR. But, we all know the 5.0 is being phased out due to EPA and other government emissions agendas. Many Manufacturers gravitated toward a thinner oil to try to squeeze any efficiency out of the engines that they could. I feel with that they are all sacrificing reliability and longevity. This is showing to be true with the GM and the 6.2 debacle right now. They are immediately changing from 0W20 to 0W40.
Thats the easy answer, but is it right? That would be like sticking to the 15000 interval because JLR recommends that.

I like easy lol..As far as the recommended 15000 interval, there are different views on that subject. I change mine at least once a year. Remember, today's synthetic oils are much better that the old conventional oils. If you do a lot of off roading in dusty environments, and drive in stop and go traffic, changing the oil more frequently is recommended. But I would still go with the OEM recommended oil viscosity, however, at the end of the day it is your call and you are free to do what you desire.
