Lots of folklore around oil change intervals on the internet. I wouldn’t listen to a single recommendation unless the person is showing you their oil testing results. And even then whose to say they spend the same amount of time towing or in dusty conditions or even just making short trips that don’t warm things up as you do?
An analysis such as one from Blackstone will tell you how much life is left in your oil as well as what the wear patterns are looking like. Maybe you need a 3k mile change… maybe 20k? A test is cheaper than an oil change so it’s worth it imo.

Only the Defender OCTA has the BMW 4.4l V8 Bi-turbo engine. All other V8 engines in the Defender are from JLR.
I learn something new everyday. Curious why just the defender uses the AJ and the rest of the lineup uses the BMW engine. We have the new RRS and the engine is fantastic.
Because the Defender is on an old platform, and they have a bunch of AJ133s stockpiled up that they need to use. I personally hate the BMW N63 engine. Sure its faster and more efficient, but it lacks the character and sound of the AJ133, and its notoriously unreliable. Even more so than the AJ133. The N63 is known for turbo failures, head gasket leaks, cooling system problems, fuel injector issues and more. My neighbor bought a 2020 750i with this engine, and blew a dead gasket at 29k miles and caused enough damage that it needed a new engine. He refused it, BMW bought it back and he bought a 740i with the B58 I6 and it has been flawless. The B58 is an excellent engine, the N63, not so much.

we currently have a X7 with the B58, I hope we do not regret switching to the defender with the AJ133
I feel like CincyRovers about the N63 engine.
I had a 2020 RRS with the old AJ133 engine and was going to switch the car to a then new 2023 RRS with the N63 engine. After driving it for about 4 weeks, I returned the new RRS to the dealer and opted for a Defender with the AJ133 engine.
