Default 6011 or 5098 and offroad

qq:

Why dont the 6011 wheels come with an off road option?

Which do you like better the 5098 or the 6011 and would you powder coat the 5098 to make them black?

No idea why you can't pick off-road tires with the 6011 style wheels, must be a glitch in the online build configurator, or perhaps they look too precious and LR, in its infinite wisdom, has decided you should not take them in the dirt, like, ever. If you were planning to order the Off-Road Pack anyway, I guess you could add off-road tires that way since they are included in the package.

Pick the wheels you like, don't listen to us.

When awareness of this fact first arose, deep in the Covid-19 shortages, the forum guessed in might have to do with a shortage of supply of such a beautiful wheel -- so JLR was reserving them for on-road use.

But, this situation continues as a policy, it seems -- so maybe it is some other reason based on marketing exclusivity or some such? Or maybe the wheel has technical limitations (low strength) which makes it not suitable for off-road use?

No clue, really.

Yeah. That is what the dealer said too. Some weird production/combo thing. I decided to stay with the 5098 wheels, even though I do like the 6011. The dealer was willing to swap out for the 6011 but they wanted me to pay for the powder coat on the 5098 since they wanted black rims. not worth it. I do like the simple look of the 5098 too. Maybe Ill powder coat the 5098 in the future.

in any event, i am super happy with my 2021 defender!

I read somewhere on these forums that Land Rover rims are designed with a lip that has a much sturdier grip on the bead of the tire (in particular for aired-down off road situations). Maybe the above rims are more of a "street rim" and don't have the thicker lip?

That's my guess...

I went with the 6011 rims and had the exact same issue to contemplate, I wanted to rear locker, but with the 6011 you can't get the offroad pack because of the tires. In the end looks prevailed as I won't be doing any real intense offroading. When I was going through my build there was actually a customers 110 there with the 6011's and 275/60R20 Duratracs with johnson rods fitted by the dealer. After seeing them in person they became a requirement on my build, I wasn't even considering them before that, they look so much better in the flesh. I've seen a number of defenders on instagram running the 6011 rims with BFG KO2's, and Nitto's. @defender_110x is an intragram account of a guy running exactly this setup, so there are no issues fitting the tires on those rims. It's just a weird production line quirk as far as I have ascertained. Dug up those pics too :
