Adaptive cruise in traffic?
It is my understanding that the adaptive cruise will work while driving in stop and go traffic, but of course I could be wrong. 😵💫
Can anyone chime in that has the guts to have used it in that situation. I don’t have the nerve to even try it.
Thanks

Yes. Works. ACC will bring you a full stop and will resume forward motion when traffic moves. It's not as smooth as other ACC's I've used so I tend not to use it much in this scenario but it works safely.
I agree with the others. Yes it will do it, but it's nowhere near refined enough to be comfortable like some vehicles.
Here's an example. Driving in the right lane with the CC set at 70. Car in front is doing 60. If you can't get over to the left lane in time the Defender will slow to 60 pretty quickly and hold there behind the car. Now when the left lane is clear you can move over but the transmission will downshift and pretty much floor it to get back to 70. It's overly excited to get you back to speed where a more refined version will accelerate more reasonably to 70 without the kickdown.
In bumper to bumper it will do something similar if you merge into a large gap. It will go go go... until it gets to the next car that it locks onto and then it's brake brake brake...
JLR could use a ride in a Ford Expedition. That ACC is very refined.

My experience with the 1st long road trip using ACC was mixed.
On normal country highways through rural areas it does great - until the car you're behind gets into a turn lane either on the left or right of where you are. It then slams on the brakes as that vehicle is turning.
I also noticed that, if you come up behind a vehicle that is going slower than you and the ACC slows down to accommodate, but when you put your turn signal on (I know drivers from Massachusetts won't know what this is) it will start to accelerate so you can merge into the passing lane more effectively.
Getting the ACC calibrated is one of the handful of things that I want my dealer to do prior to my warranty expiring in January.

ACC in stop and go situations has been a game changer for driving in and out of NYC. I’ve found the medium (2-bars) distance perfect for highways and then far (3-bars) the right amount for stop/go in the nightmarish GW Bridge / Lincoln Tunnel / Holland Tunnel traffic. Would recommend you pop the car into eco mode when using ACC, as that substantially smooths out the throttle. Otherwise, it takes off like a scalded cat when a gap opens up. I will add that how smoothly it performs seems heavily influenced by the driver of the car that you’re following…if it’s a herky jerky driver then hopefully you’ve got some Dramamine on hand.
