Air conditioning 21 P300
Dang, if mine didn't start the same thing today. Worked fine at 2PM, then when I left the office at 5:30 it stopped working and would not come back on all the way home (30 minute drive) no matter what combination of MAX, on ,off etc. The only clue I have is that with the AC on the auto stop does not function at all, then when I turn off the AC and the auto stop is not off, the engine shuts down as it should. As soon as I turn on the AC, the engine starts up. This may mean that the system senses the compressor is running. Or not. But still no cold air, in fact it is warmer than the ambient temps. Seems like a sensor problem. How did the others who posted in this thread resolve the issue?
Mine would also "fix itself" then it would not work. It was a pinched a ring in the system that was a slow leak and the pressure would drop therefore the AC would quit working. It was intermittent which was weird but after they found it, replace it, and recharged it I have not had an issue since and it is ice cold all the time now
Thanks!
As an update, just came back from a +1200 mile trip to the east coast, mostly freeway. My 23 110 ran faultlessly, AC worked great in 100+ temps. Mpg 20 -22 mpg.
I am convinced that the event I described above is not a mechanical issue but it was a software glitch. I love this thing!
We spent a week in Newport RI, came and went on I-80. I never saw another L663 Defender. I did see a 1995 NAS Defender 90 in town and an even older military 90 at the Naval War College.

For reference, Auto-stop will not function when the AC is on. See below, from the manual.TRIGGERING AN AUTO STOP
To trigger an auto stop, drive forward with Drive (D) or Sport (S) selected, and stop the vehicle. Fully press the brake pedal to make sure the vehicle is stationary.
The following conditions inhibit an auto stop:

- The engine or other vehicle systems have not reached their optimum operating temperatures.
- The driver's seat belt is unbuckled.
- Demand from the climate control system requires the engine to be running, e.g., when in defrost mode.
- The vehicle's battery charge is low.
- The auto stop/start system is deactivated.
- After reversing, the vehicle's speed has not exceeded 16 km/h (10 mph).
