Default Anyone know how to fix this sound?

Have been reading online and trying to diagnose this sound … I’ve read about A-Pillar issues, this seems to come more from inside the lower portion of the drivers door. Emits a squeaking sound in my opinion, though I’ve read some people describing an issue with the sound of sand hitting the windshield.

Hard to pinpoint a root cause… broken pavement starts it for sure, but can also happen on smoother roads. I’ve noticed it’s sometimes worse with the gas pedal pressed vs coasting… does not appear to be related to the sound system (as you can see it’s there without music playing). Not sure if it’s weather or heat related … happens all year long. Dealer attempted to fix at 13K miles, got quieter, but sound is back at 16K.

Does anyone else have this issue, and if so, how did you or your dealer resolve it? It’s a very junky sound in what has otherwise been a fantastic car with no other issues.

Please listen if you have a minute… sound up so you can hear the squeaking.

Thanks for any advice!

Can’t seem to upload the video. Apologies … will attempt to figure that out later.

Is it a high pitched squeaking sound coming from the left side of the steering wheel? If so, it is the dashboard. I fixed it with these furniture wedges. Just stick it between the instrument binnacle and the dashboard, and it completely gets rid of the rattle.

Great call - I will look into that on my next drive and see if that's the cause. Will also try to get the video uploaded... have a feeling I'm not the only one with this sound.

If you can upload the video to YouTube, just paste the link on here and it will work.

Next time you experience the noise, firmly grab the grab handle on the dash left of the steering wheel and see if that stops it. If it does, then my method will work.

OK, in lieu of a video which didn't show anything anyway - here is the persistent sound I'm hearing. If you turn your sound up you can hear a constant squeaking/scratching - happens about 80% of the time when I drive, bumpy roads often initiate it but it can happen on a smoother road when accelerating. Cold weather, warm weather, sun, rain. I will say, with the weather cooling in the northeast it is happening more like 60% of the time now.

I've pressed all over the driver's door and dashboard area and everything seems very solid. I wonder if maybe it's a speaker issue? I don't have any issues playing music ... but the squeaking/scratching is there with or without music. What's fun is that while it happens nearly constantly, this week I went to drop it off at the dealer and of course - the sound stopped on the way over.

CincyRover - it doesn't seem to be related to the issue you were experiencing ... pulled on the grab handle etc. and didn't stop the noise. Really appreciate the suggestions though, willing to try anything!

Do you all think the speaker theory is possible? Or am I experiencing some of the "sand hitting the windshield" issues that others have had with their A-Pillars?

Thanks.

That is the exact same noise as mine made, and the method I provided worked for me. Mine would stop if I firmly grabbed on the grab handle, or firmly grabbed the top of the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel. Mine only made the noise over slightly rough pavement, and not on smooth roads, but it was the exact same squeaking noise you're experiencing.

Yeah, for sure! I will tell you it has nothing to do with the speakers. Even with the radio off, there is fake engine noise playing through the speakers once you go over about 1/4 throttle or so, but if it was speaker related, it would be a rattling sound, not a high-pitched squeak.

Well, I think you may have found the solution! I just went and pressed on the flat plastic that meets the curved plastic near the instrument cluster, and sure enough that made a squeak. Amazon order placed, gets here tomorrow - will let you know how I make out. Thanks again.
