Autoblog article - Defender 110 suspension deep-dive
Autoblog just published an interesting deep-dive article discussing the suspension on the 110

I remember seeing your post about it in another thread but wasn’t sure if it was the same thing.

In my time off-road, I have come to really appreciate the compactness of the suspension design. Compared to standard independent suspensions, the control arms are outboard and pushed up, out of the way of ground contact. It also features very few points which may collect debris or easily be damaged by ground contact.
Yes, the articulation is not terrific, but the 4WD system functions very well with only two or three wheels on the ground. (My Evoque was the same).
Inspired by the article and the threads on tire lifts/non-lifts/tire sizes, I spent time under the vehicle studying the author's points and I am convinced that only 255/70 R18 tires are in my foreseeable future (as I do not want to permanently use rods or lift the body or convert to coils).

I'm with you @TrioLRowner . I was on the same path of changing the wheels/tires (and was secretly waiting for you to resolve the outstanding 18 question before copying you!). Now after this article: I think I'm going to stick with the stock size (255/60R20). Maybe with the stock snow tire as an option on a different wheelset (275/55R20).
I will replace the stock tires (Wrangler ATs). Either sooner so I can resale what I have or later after putting more miles on it. I'm incented to get the (non-German) Duratacs as they have obviously engineered this WAY beyond my experiences.
