I use the genuine LR half height one (half height is the upper half but not the lower half -- so you can put stuff under it if you go to Home Depot etc -- which is a huge help as opposed to full height which blocks the entire height between 2nd row and cargo area)
Combined with the rear quilted protector mat that covers the sides and floor of the rear.
Expensive combo, but well worth it. What’s great about the quilted mat: 1) it mat folds down and gives the hounds something to grip when jumping up. Massively helpful. 2) It also keeps them in when the back door is open, like in this pic.
Thanks guys. My dog is a 60 lb mutt, but she's turning 10 soon and isn't as nimble as she used to be, so the quilted liner would be helpful I'm sure. My brother has a Travall in one of his cars (not a Defender), and he seems to like it.
Ahh an older dog, yes, here’s something else that will help. My older bloodhound (since gone) had alot of trouble jumping in and out of the Defender in his later years.
I’d also get a “stick on” rubber thing to go on sloped portion on top of the rear bumper. Otherwise the dogs fall off it when they stand there, and get zero traction on it (also the scratch it up but that’s not my concern)
This is the one I bought on Amazon. It’s great because it’s rubber, not hard plastic which IMO would be just as slippery, like all the other ones . So, the dogs can grab it / grip it with their paws. Still looks good after 3-4 years parked outside.
Thank you Nash! I have gone ahead and ordered the Travall. Their website was excellent and easy to use and the installation video was Defender-specific, which amazed me. I tried to evaluate the Land Rover piece, but finding accessories on their website is a disaster and I just ended up marveling at the Octa (and its MSRP, holy cats!).
I have ordered the Amazon rubber bumper protector thingie -- this will be just what my old Juniper needs for jumping into the back. Really appreciate the tip!

PS, pictures of said dog and Defender on a trip to Michigan's UP earlier this summer:
Currently a passenger princess (and in insufferable Massachusetts turnpike traffic) with the two Goldens in the back seat. I bought - shamefully - some no name dog hammock off amazon.it has a hard bottom and sides which loop into the oh **** handles to protect the doors... which is very important if your doggo likes to stick their head out the window.
My Travall is installed and turned out great, so I thought I would come back to this thread for future researchers, and to say thanks again to @nashvegas and @Mike_F for their help. Thanks too, to @Retiredone and @H1Tad for the additional insights.
Installation was a breeze and it retains the functionality of the elastic strap compartments. There are zero rattles and the design is quite clever and coordinated with the Defender. It would take seconds to remove if ever needed. Here are some pics.
