Default Bf Goodrich KO3 release dates announced

Ko3 releasing many sizes in May and August.

Unfortunately for us with 20s, the most popular Ko2 sizes that fit on Defender don’t appear such as 275/55r20 and 265/60r20.

we may be stuck with Ko2 for some time.

265/70R18 works for the 18” wheel set. Not sure I want KO3s though.

The 19s are coming Nov 2025. Let’s hope that they get pushed up a little, my Duratracs will need replacing at some point within the next year or so.

Tire Rack told me the 255/65R19 will be available "later this year".

That’s great news, I will likely keep my 19s in that event. The downsize to 18in was hard to justify, given the cost of new rims (which would ultimately be beat up anyways, as my 19s are). I would gladly keep the 19s with the new BFG option. Not that the Duratracs have been bad, they are just a little noisy as they wear.

Why wouldn't you want the KO3?

Significantly heavier than alternatives. These are all p-metric 265/70R18.

  • BFG KO2: 51lbs
  • Falken Wildpeak A/T3W: 47lbs
  • Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac: 46lbs
  • Toyo Open Country AT/III: 43lbs
  • Goodyear Adventure with Kevlar: 43lbs

And I live in a snow zone, so snow performance matters. Reviews say that the Falken and Toyo do better in snow.

Oh I got you, I thought you were meaning you wouldn't take them over the KO2.

The KO2s are funny, people love to tell stories about them not doing well in the rain or snow but then you go with the consumer rating on tire rack and the KO2 are better in the snow than the wildpeaks. There are a lot of reviews of them as monsters in the snow and then a lot of reviews of them sucking. Oh well.

I got them because they are considerably more durable than any of the others on your list and my number one concern is shredding sidewalls. But I also live in the desert so that's a factor. I only onto the mountains of Colorado a few times a year.

Fair point. That's the hard thing about tire reviews - it's all either very subjective, or very dependent on too many variables to make for an apples-to-apples test. It's just too expensive to line up multiple identical 4wd vehicles, each with a set of identically-sized tires from different manufacturers. And even if you did, you'll have multiple drivers, which adds another variable.

But I'm the guy who's still using the factory Goodyear Adventure AT tires on my Defender 110, and they're just fine, even aired down to 18psi, on the rocky trails we have here in Pennsylvania. When they wear out I'll get one of the ones listed above.

Supposedly, per my tire guy / owner today, K03 in 255/65R19 XL load is scheduled for August, which JLR needs for the Defender OCTO about then. I can't wait either, just repaired the 3rd OEM Wrangler - 2nd one that picked up a stone break dead in the middle of the tread when I was driving NC-197 (party gravel where I live) up the mountain. 3rd was a pair of finishing nails, so - hard to blame the tire.
