Blank Pivi screen

I know there is a newer thread on this, but search function here is useless for multi word phrases.

Yesterday my two months old D90S started with no Pivi screen and no amount of reboots affects this. It came back the 4th or 5th time I started.

My screen does not turn on occasionally too. It seems to happen after short run cycles. For instance I'll move it out of the garage and the screen will be on, then I shut the car off and when I return a few minutes later to start it the screen does not come on again.

When the screen fails to come on Pivi still seems to be working as I can issue voice commands and use the radio. Holding the power button to reboot doesn't seem to fix it.

I can get it to work again if I lock the car for about 3-4 minutes.

I haven't brought it in for service yet because it's so difficult to recreate the issue.

 

Exact same thing happened to me, fortunately only once.

It is impossible recreate, totally random.

I forgot to mention that the plastic cover for the camera & sensors top center of the windshield fell off into the floor. Hey Zues.

 

Has anyone found a resolution for this?

It's happened 2x in 5 days, of ownership and today it was more than just a nuisance. I needed it to navigate, and when I entered the destination by voice it offered several options--which I couldn't see.

The proper British lady couldn't understand my angry American cursing so I had to revert to using my phone. It came back a couple of stops later after my wife threatened to punch it.

Maybe violence is the answer in this case?

Hoping there's a resolution short of a visit to the dealership.

Yeah, this is not normal ... but I have no fix recommendation. FYI -my 2020 did this in 2021 a couple times (random reboots, black screen, cameras screen black) -- but only when it was new, software updates fixed it.

 

Glad to hear it's not normal!

Also hoping that an OTA update will fix.

Thanks for the feedback. We had a great day yesterday and I am LOVING the car, so it was frustrating to have a "luxury" feature let me down when I really needed it.

Interesting. Not sure if it's just a difference caused by display settings, but when it happens to me my screen is black. Not "not powered up" black, but displaying a black color. 🤷

 

Just got this today on the way to work. 15 minutes into a 20 minute drive and the screen just went black. Radio still worked. Couldn't power it off with the button. I've locked it and set the alarm and will see if it comes back after lunch.
Has anyone used a GAP tool to "clear codes" and force it back on? Might try that after work if it's not back.
