Default Bow tie-down when carrying a kayak

Anyone have any suggestions for a bow tie-down spot when carrying a kayak without adding a brush guard? Kind of feel uneasy driving down the road without one.

I'd feel uneasy too. What about a new kayak? The Oru fits perfectly in the back of my D90 with back seats up. Probably best purchase I've ever made as I have with me all of the time and can kayak wherever I want. Plus, less hassle than roof mounting.

How is the Oru? I've been considering it, as a new kayak-er. I've always rented kayaks but the idea of owning one is off-putting since I have to deal with storage.

I have these and they work well

Amazon Amazon

I believe the fender tie downs is the one and only feature the bronco has that is missing from the defender - fixed for $20

The Oru is great. I've had mine for 5 years and it's a real game changer. Eliminates storage hassle and saves time/effort to roof mount. It's always in the back of the vehicle whenever I want it. I have the Bay ST model and the height when standing in the back of my D90 is even with the back seat so no impact on seeing out the rear window.

Awesome, what about fitting though? I'm 6'4", medium build - I've had the Bay ST in my mind for a while, but it seems like it might be a tight fit length wise

It's 13' with fair amount of leg room up front, but it is their more narrow model so depends how comfortable/skilled you are at slipping into the cockpit.

How's that boat hold up in the heat of a car?
