Hi everyone, I would like to know if this has happened to any of you and how the manufacturer behaved. This morning I get into the car and open the roof, I hear a strange noise and I see that the roof has only opened halfway, that is, only the mechanism on the right side has moved while the left side has remained stationary, so the roof has only opened from the right side straining on the left side and breaking the glass, then subsequently the mechanism on the left side also moved but by then the damage was done. Since the car is less than a year old, I call the dealer to ask for a replacement since it is still under warranty and they reply that the windows are not covered by the warranty because it is not possible to prove that they have not taken a hit. I explained to him that he hadn't taken any hits in fact there were no signs of stones or anything else and that when it happened I was standing in the courtyard and that the crack is inside the glass in fact both from inside and outside the car if you pass your car through it. finger above you can't feel anything to the touch. Now I'll try to write to Land Rover Italia and see what they tell me.
Unfortunate that this happened. I think this is something where the 'relationship' or escalation path at the dealership determines whether or not it's covered. Ie -- you must plea your case and underscore your honesty in the matter with a the manager or principal of the dealership. Or LR Italy. I wouldn't mess around with the employees/service advisors, they won't get this done for you.
It sounds like 100% it should be covered. Unfortunately though, I'm just not sure how you prove it.
As for the crack only being felt on the inside, I do have an unfortunate bit of news is that it probably is not relevant to cause -- as friends children jumping in / horsing around inside of vehicles has cracked pano sunroofs from the inside out before.
Can you replicate the lopsided / twisting behavior of the motor/mechanism? That may help.
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately no I can't reproduce the wrong movement, I tried again immediately after the incident to be able to film/photograph it but it never did again. I'll try again in the next few days

Sorry to hear about the broken glass - just an idea, when you go to the dealership can you ask for the replacement to be no glass? The other thing I've read about is "Gorilla" glass. This is usually used on watches (like Garmin), but it is also sold to some Jeep Wrangler drivers for use as a front windshield. Is it good? Not sure, but if you go with "Gorilla" glass, it's clearly extra strong. It may be too thick or too heavy, so I suspect it's a long shot for a roof. Personally, I tried to order a Defender without a glass top, and because they are no longer making them that way, my order is on hold. At some point I'm sure JLR will offer again the no glass top Defender option.

I'm waiting for a response from Land Rover because they should change it for me under warranty since the car is less than a year old and it didn't break due to a stone but due to a malfunction of the opening mechanism. At the moment they claim that it is not possible to prove what happened but I continue to insist because there is no sign of impact and the crack is inside the glass and not perceptible to the touch inside or outside. I also didn't want the glass roof but unfortunately the HSE cannot be ordered without it
Yes happened to me. I took it into the dealer and we had a close look and we found la very small chip where it looked like something had hit it and the crack spread from there. Therefore got it replaced under insurance not warrantee. It did take 8 months to get a replacement glass though! Luckily the crack was only through the outer layer of the laminated glass so it was still waterproof and fine to drive. Good luck with getting yours sorted.

did you ask your dealer about replacing with a "standard roof"? in other words, out with the glass, and just a metal roof? 8 months backlog on a piece of glass sounds like a really long time to wait for something that could - potentially - be leaking?! Honestly, 8 months is too long to wait for any replacement piece. all that stuff should be at dealers within a month if it's a small part, and 2 months max (if it's something very specific and not likely to break and thus not inventoried). But glass? that should have an inventory, IMO...
A nice aftermarket panel made of carbon fiber would be a much better way to go.. Reduce weight up top and not have glass over your head waiting to break again..
